Barcelona was defeated in the game last night against Atletico Madrid. Furthermore, the Spanish giant suffered from an injury crisis.
The Atleti last night was on fire in terms of defeating such a strong opponent like FC. Barcelona. The Madrid side only got 2 shots on goal, but they scored one decisive goal to conclude the result of the game. Meanwhile, Barcelona created 4 shots on goal, but they received no goal. It is not to mention that afterward such a tremendously terrible display, Barcelona suffered from an injury crisis when Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto announced their missing in the upcoming showcases of the club.
While Pique was replaced by Sergiño Dest in the minute 61st because of a knee injury, Roberto confirmed his quadriceps problem after the clash against Atleti.
According to the Diario Sport, Pique would go through the medical test in order to identify the seriousness of his injury. However, the player can be missing for four or six months at least. “He broke into tears after the injury,” the Marca described Pique’s emotion after being replaced by Sergiño Dest .
Even though Pique was no longer the best version of himself, the Spanish defender remains to be an important part of El Blaugran’s defense. Barcelona recently just confirmed that they would not have the service of Samuel Umtit because of a knee injury. The expected comeback of the French defender is vague.
Similarly, Pique would be out for an unexpected period of time.
Fortunately, the injury of Sergi Roberto is a muscular pain, and the Spanish right-back can return to the game of soccer much sooner than his veteran teammate. On social media sites, former teammate of Pique, Carles Puyol sent to him an encouraging message.
“Be strong, my friend. Hopefully, it is not that serious,” Puyol wrote. Javier Mascherano, who was the succesful partner in crime with Pique in the season of 2014-2015, also sent to his former friend an encouragement. “I hope that it is not serious. Be tough,” Mascherano wrote.
Hopefully, Pique would not be out for a long term. Barcelona right now has a shortage of center back when the only healthy player left is Clement Lenglet. Ronald Koeman could have to make Frenkie De Jong a center back in the upcoming displays of Barcelona.
Perhaps, the Dutchman can also consider to graduate a La Masian defender to first team. Whatever move he makes, it is all to solve the problem in short term. Barcelona will have to add to their squad a defender this Winter if they still want to compete for the UEFA Champions League and La Liga at the same time.
