Prosecutors said Lan committed serious crimes repeatedly over a long period of time, using sophisticated methods and in an organized manner. She did not show sincerity during the trial and blamed her subordinates.
They recommended 19 to 20 years in prison for corruption, 19 to 20 years in prison for violating banking regulations and death for embezzlement. The combined punishment recommended against her is death.
Several former executives of Saigon Commercial Bank, including presidents Dinh Van Thanh and Bui Anh Dung and CEO Vo Tan Hoang Van, are sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutors said they actively helped Lan steal a large sum of money. Although they repented in court and made up for part of the losses, they also committed crimes over a long period of time and caused serious consequences.
Prosecutors therefore recommended life imprisonment for embezzlement and violation of banking regulations.
