According to Yonhap News Agency, this places Vietnamese men third among foreign husbands in South Korea, accounting for 15.8% of the total. The largest proportion comes from the United States, accounting for 27.7%, followed by Chinese men in second place at 18.4%.
At the same time, a notable portion of marriages between Vietnamese men and women of South Korean nationality involve those who have previously been married to South Korean men, according to the ministry. Chosun daily.
As of 2022, of the 792 South Korean women who married Vietnamese men, 556 have remarried.
Among them, 482, or 86.7 percent, were women from Vietnam who became naturalized South Korean citizens. They acquired South Korean citizenship through their first marriage to local men, then divorced and later remarried Vietnamese men.
In 2023, Vietnamese women made up the largest group of foreign brides in South Korea, holding a 33.5% share, followed by Chinese and Thai brides with 18.1% and 13.7%, respectively.
