Liverpool got a crucial victory against RB Leipzig in the first leg of the last 16 fixture of the UEFA Champions League season 2020-2021.
Liverpool won over RB Leipzig with a result of 2-0, and grabbed an important victory before two sides have their second leg in a next few weeks. Within only 5 minutes of the second half, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored two goals respectively for The Kop and helped their club grab the urgent win against the German side.
However, The Kop had a tough first half against Leipzig. They could not even made an attempt on-target and was nailed down with a drawn first half. In the second half, thanks to the clinical and precision of Salah and Mane, Liverpool managed to seal their victory.
The first goal of Liverpool was scored after a mistaken pass of Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer. A bad move of the Austrian midfielder opened a good chance for Salah in front of the box of Leipzig. The Egyptian striker cashed in the opportunity and gave Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi no saving chance.
It was 1-0 for Liverpool when the second half was only 8 minutes in.
Liverpool continued to score a goal thanks to another mistake of Leipzig’s defense. This time, it was Nordi Mukiele who made a bad prediction and let Mane of Liverpool have a chance to face Gulacsi. It was a good chance for Sane and he did not waste it, cashed in the shot successfully and uplifted the margin for the Kop.
Two goals were way too much for Leipzig and the German side could not overturn the match.
In fact, they began this game better than the English side. The team from East Germany could even have scored the opening goal if Dani Olmo’s header was more accurate.
The team from Bundesliga had another chance in the last 30 minutes of the match but Hwang Hee-chan did not successfully score for Leipzig. Losing this game, Leipzig still got a chance for an overturn in the second leg, but it will be a harsh mission to accomplish.
