Liverpool targets Bayern Munich’s Alaba as a potential signing. Meanwhile, Manchester City also searches for an addition to their defense.
Both Liverpool and Man City have pushed a new pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Alaba. The Austrian defender is about to expire his contract in Summer 2021, and Bayern doesn’t want to extend the contract.
David Alaba himself is mostly open to a move to English Premier League than other competitions. The contract of him is ending, and the player will have the right to talk with any clubs in January. According to 90Min, Alaba has offered himself to English’s sides more than other clubs. Barcelona and Real Madrid are also involving in this race. Nonetheless, Alaba loves to see himself playing in the Premier League.
The Austrian defender has played for Bayern Munich in 12 years since he signed a contract in 2008. In the last 12 years, Alaba proved his talent as a crucial player in Bayern’s defending system. The player won 20 trophies with the German club, and he is acknowledged as a modern-day legend of Bayern Munich.

Hansi Flick, the coach of Bayern Munich, said that he wished Alaba would stay with the club. “I still hope he’ll sign with Bayern because I think he knows what the situation is like here in Munich. It’s a lot of fun to train with a team with a good atmosphere here, we play successful football and this club is one of the best in the world,” Flick said. “The conditions are top for every player right now and I think he’ll think twice about changing that.”
Nonetheless, Flick respected the decision of his player. “It’s his decision – and we have to respect that, obviously – but I hope he will stay. He has to decide, my feeling is irrelevant,” Flick said in Goal.
Flick only had three options for the center-back right now, and Alaba usually is the one to start the game besides Jerome Boateng and Niklas Sule. Since last season, Alaba has been a key factor in Bayern’s defending system. He is still playing his best soccer although his future at the club is uncertain.
“I feel he’s the same as last season, very focused, loud on the pitch, one of the players who lead our defense. For me, there’s no difference between now and last season,” Flick said.
In the last four games, David Alaba only got won 40% of his tackles, but he remains the first choice of the German coach in the upcoming Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid. Pairing with him might be Jerome Boateng, according to Flick. He admitted that they showed the connection on the training ground.

Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidzic has previously confessed that Alaba would leave the team in the next transfer window. The legendary midfielder said. “In life and football, you should never say never. But I don’t know how we can still find each other. We made an offer that was rejected and now we have to deal with the fact that David will leave us.”
During his time at Bayern Munich, Alaba has won two UEFA Champions League, and he will be an enormous deficit for Bayern if he is leaving. Recently, Chelsea also participated in the race for Alaba, and London’s team can be a good destination for an Austrian player.
However, Alaba is the number one target of the current Liverpool, and the Red is in contract with Alaba’s representatives recently. The Father of Alaba, George Alaba, is not happy with the fact that his son’s contract will not be extended. He is looking for an escape for his son and English Liverpool will be a seductive option.
