A weekend nighttime street entertainment zone is planned in Thao Dien, HCMC’s expat hub, and will open on Friday as the city seeks to grow its nighttime economy.
The area, covering Xuan Thuy, Quoc Huong and Nguyen Van Huong streets, would be open from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and feature street art performances, city authorities said on Tuesday.
There will be stalls offering food. During a six-month trial period, there will be jazz and rock concerts, don ca tai tu (traditional southern musical genre) performances and shopping.
Authorities plan to operate free electric buses to transport tourists to the area.
Located to the east of the city and surrounded by the Saigon and Rach Chiec rivers, Thao Dien is home to more than 20,000 residents.
The area is also dotted with luxury bars and restaurants open until midnight.
HCMC currently has eight nighttime street zones, including Bui Vien and Nguyen Hue streets designated for walking in District 1.
