Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are getting a Whitechapel chip, but exactly does it do?
Rumor has it that Google will equip both its upcoming gadgets, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, with a custom processor it is making in collaboration with Samsung. For all purposes, the new Pixels are expected to abandon the previous Qualcomm’s SoCs for a Google chip codenamed Whitechapel.

Some details about the mysterious silicon have appeared all thanks to the tipster Max Weinbach, and other leaker named Yogesh.
Weinbach, who went on as a guest on Mobile Tech podcast, said that Whitechapel is a 5nm chip and that its performance would stand somewhere between the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 865.
Elaborating on the information, Yogesh posted on his personal Twitter account and revealed that the Whitechapel’s current performance is equivalent to the Snapdragon 870, which itself is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865 Plus.

Yogesh also claimed that Google is not trying to match the Snapdragon 888. Instead, Google is focusing on perfecting Machine Learning and AI processes, something that is right up its alley.
Since Google does not have an in-house mobile graphics division, the tipster stated that Whitechapel will use a Mali GPU. Unfortunately, there are no additional details that are available about it.

In addition to outing information about Whitechapel, Weinbach also touched upon some specs on the recently leaked Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
Weinbach stated that the standard model will feature a Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, according to Pocket Lint.
Meanwhile, the Pro is expected to feature a QHD+ screen with the same high refresh rate. Pixel phones have not breached the 90Hz refresh rate mark until now, so a 120Hz screen would be a first for any Google phone.
The larger Pixel model may also come with a 5,000mAh battery, Weinbach claims.
It looks like Google is once again targeting the flagship market with these premium specs and features. Fans will have to wait and see how it will all come together, especially since the public do not know much about the camera features, or the pricing of the new Pixels.
Rumored Release Dates
Google usually reveal its Pixel device in the latter half of the year, usually in October. During this year’s I/O Developer Conference, Google stated that it is aiming for the Pixels reveal this fall, so fans can expect that it will be released in October, unless the company makes any changes or delays.
In terms of the price, the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 4, and the Pixel 4 XL all sat in the same price bracket as flagship smartphones.
The Pixel 5, on the other hand, was targeted at the mid-range in terms of price.
However, it is not currently clear what Google will do in terms of price this year, though it would not be surprising to see the Pixel 6 around the same price as the Pixel 5, with the Pixel 6 Pro having a slightly higher price tag.
