A sleeper bus carrying 31 foreign and seven Vietnamese passengers crashed into a truck in Phu Yen province on Thursday morning, killing one man and injuring six.
Vu Thanh Viet, 40, was driving the sleeper bus on National Highway 1D in the central province’s Song Cau town after midnight, while Nguyen Sang, 32, was driving a truck coming from the opposite direction.
Two vehicles crashed and the strong impact caused the bus to spin and nearly block both lanes of the highway.
As seats and luggage were ejected, many passengers on the sleeper bus became trapped and screamed for help. Residents in the area rushed to help before police and medical personnel arrived.
The truck was destroyed: its cabin completely crushed. Debris was scattered all over the scene.
The bus diver’s leg was broken while six passengers on board the sleeper bus, including five foreigners whose nationality has not yet been revealed, were injured.
The truck driver was seriously injured and died on the way to hospital.
The accident occurred while it was raining, making the road slippery.
