A court in the city of Da Nang sentenced a local teenager to nine months in prison for causing a motorcycle collision that killed a Kyrgyz man last year.
Dinh Duong Chinh, 18, was found guilty of violating traffic laws, including running a red light and driving without a license.
Nguyen Quoc Dai, 34, who had rented the motorcycle the tourist was riding at the time of his death, was found guilty of the crime of “renting vehicles to persons not qualified to participate in road traffic” and sentenced to one year rehabilitation without detention. .
In February last year, the tourist, then 28, rented the motorbike from Dai by presenting a driver’s license. Dai did not check whether the license was valid for driving motorcycles in Vietnam before handing over the vehicle.
At noon on May 16, while the tourist was at the intersection of Ngo Quyen and Vuong Thua Vu streets in Son Tra district, he collided with Chinh, who was under 18 at the time, and died. on the spot.
The investigation determined that Chinh’s refusal to pay attention to the red light was the cause of the accident.
