The remaining cases were registered in the southern Dong Nai Province (80), Mekong Delta’s Vinh Long Province (43), the the central Khanh Hoa Province (38), the delta’s Ben Tre (34), the central hub Da Nang (32), the southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province (26), the delta’s Can Tho City (22), the central Phu Yen Province (12), the delta provinces of Hau Giang (10) and Kien Giang (eight), the northern Vinh Phuc Province (seven), Hanoi (six), the southern Binh Phuoc Province (six), the delta’s An Giang (six) and Dong Thap (six), the Central Highlans Province of Dak Lak (two), the central Quang Ngai Province (two), the delta’s Bac Lieu Province (two), the Central Highlands Lam Dong Province (three), and Quang Nam Province in the central region (one).

Vietnam has recorded local infections in 58 of its 63 cities and provinces so far in the new wave that started in late April. HCMC has the highest number of infections, 35,984.

According to VNExpress, the nation has vaccinated more than 4.3 million of its 96-million population against the coronavirus, but only 309,791 have got two doses.

    HCMC to reopen traditional markets

Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of HCMC Department of Industry and Trade said Monday that market operators have to control and guide the flow of vendors and shoppers to maintain Covid safety rules like wearing masks, sanitizing hands, maintaining sufficient distance, avoiding gatherings and making health declarations when needed.

Vendors and customers have to maintain as little contact as possible during transactions, and prices should remain steady. Items permitted to be sold in the markets will include meat, seafood, vegetables and fruits.

Markets that cannot meet standards for Covid-19 prevention at their current location can use alternate spaces to ensure that safety for both vendors and market goers.

According to HCMC Department of Industry and Trade, 46 markets were operating and 191 closed, as of Sunday.

The city, home to 13 million people, is now the most infected locality in the country with nearly 36,000 local cases recorded in the ongoing Covid-19 wave that hit Vietnam on April 27, according to VNExpress.
