Billionaire Nualphan Lamsam is set to resign as manager of the Thai national football team to focus on his campaign for the presidency of the Football Federation of Thailand.
THE Siam-Sport reported on Thursday that Madam Pang, as she is popularly known, is preparing to resign from her position after the team ends its 2023 Asian Cup campaign in the round of 16.
They lost 1-2 to Uzbekistan on Tuesday after getting through the group stage without conceding a goal.
Madam Pang has led the national team for two and a half years, spending nearly 60 million baht ($1.7 million) and taking the team to back-to-back ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) titles in 2020 and 2022.
She is one of the candidates for the presidency of the football association, whose election is scheduled for February 8, at the end of the mandate of outgoing president Somyot Pumphanmuang.
Online polls show Madam Pang leading the race ahead of rivals including politician Pauline Ngampring and former Thai League spokesperson Warong Witthaya.
Madam Pang, 57, is a businesswoman, politician and scion of one of Thailand’s richest families.
