After beating Real Sociedad in the most recent fixture of La Liga, Barcelona jumped to the top 5 of the league from the previous position – 8th position. With this victory, Barcelona continues to race for the top 3 of La Liga.
Before this match, Real Sociedad was at the top of the league and a drawn result could help them conserve the advantage. But Barcelona gave their Basque opponent any chance and overcame Real Sociedad to join the top 5 of La Liga. Such a win is important for the Blaugrana, especially when they were ranked at 8th position prior to the game against Real Sociedad. Jordi Alba and Frenkie De Jong were the stars of the home team.
Barcelona got the final victory, but it was Real Sociedad that levelled the result of the match. Brazilian Willian Jose fired off the scoring when he created a beautiful shot in the close range. A shot was fairly good and it uplifted the score for Sociedad at the 27th minute.
Nonetheless, Barcelona did not have to wait too long to equalize the result. Just 4 minutes after the goal of Sociedad, Jordi Alba equalized the result for Barcelona with his weaker right foot.
The club from Catalan then took the lead after a firing shot of Frenkie De Jong. Referee was penalized that goal an offside but then awarded it to the Catalan side after VAR reviewing.
It was also the final result of the match. Sociedad has tried hard, but the missing of David Silva and the absence of top scorer Mikel Oyarzabal set the whole team back. Barca did not play that well, but it was a fairly good performance in general.
“It was our best performance of the season, I’m so happy with the attitude the team showed,” Alba, who score the equalizer goal, said.
Alba admitted that it was tough to play without spectators and being led at the same time. Luckily, Barcelona handled the situation well and found their way back to the top. With the second consecutive victory, Barcelona found their way back in to the Top 5 of La Liga.
With this defeat, Sociedad lost their top position to Atletico Madrid who also has 26 points but sneaks into the top spot of La Liga thanks to this defeat of Sociedad.
Though Barcelona won this match, their attacking problems remained to be unsolved. The outcome of the Barcelona shooting struggled badly in the match against Sociedad, and if this could not change, Barcelona might have another terrible season coming. What is so shocking is that Barce revealed they could sell Lionel Messi- the biggest star of the club.
