Apple confirmed that there will be a new version of the current M1 chipset. However, will the upcoming M2 SoC be better than Apple’s in-house chip?

In this photo illustration, the MacBook Pro logo is displayed on an Apple MacBook Pro laptop on June 27, 2019 in San Anselmo, California. Apple announced a recall of an estimated 432,000 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops due to concerns of overheating batteries that could catch fire. The recall is for 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

Previously, the tech giant manufacturer released its new MacBook models, which are powered by the latest Apple in-house chip. This innovation was an indication that Apple wants to cut its ties with Intel, the giant tech firm’s previous processor provider.

Now, Apple proved that its latest M1-powered laptops are better than MacBook models that are still using Intel’s chipsets. However, Apple could soon release another in-house chip, as claimed by some rumors and speculations.

To give you more idea, here are some of the leaked details of the upcoming M2 chipset that you should know:

According to MacWorld’s latest report, the upcoming M2 chipset is also called M1X. As of the moment, Apple hasn’t released the specific specs of its next in-house SoC.

However, some rumors released some possible features that users could expect.

They claimed that the upcoming M2 processor is expected to be based on the architectural improvements of the upcoming A15 processor, which would be used on the next-generation iPhones and iPads.

Aside from this, the new Apple chipset could also be an enhanced 5-nanometer processor, which would offer a bit more GPU and CPU performances.

On the other hand, once the tech giant manufacturer released its new laptop in-house SoC, some speculations claimed that it will have yearly updates when it comes to image or video processing, as well as the Neural Engine.

Will It be Better Than M1 SoC?

MacRumors previously reported that Apple has integrated several different components in  its current M1 in-house SoC. These include the GPU, CPU, unified memory architecture (RAM), Secure Enclave, Neural Engine, image signal processor, and more.

It is different from the previous Intel processors on MacBooks since it uses an Arm-based architecture, which is comparable to the newly released A-series chips for iPhones and iPads. Since the new M2 in-house chip will also be based on the upcoming A15 Bionic chipset, it is expected that it will have slightly better features than the current M1 SoC.

However, it is still hard to conclude until Apple itself releases it to the public. As of the moment, the best thing you can do is wait for Apple’s further confirmations.
