Xiaomi presented the Mi Air Charge technology this Friday morning. According to the company, “remote charging technology” can charge multiple devices simultaneously and will charge a used smartphone, “while walking around or even if something goes wrong.”

The company describes how the technology works in a blog post. The transmitter looks quite large, as tall as maybe a living room side table next to a sofa. The transmitter can provide 5W wireless charging to a smartphone.
The isolated charging stack developed by Xiaomi has five built-in phase interference antennas, which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone. A phase control network composed of 144 antennas transmits millimeter waves directly to the telephone by beamforming.
This type of load has nothing to do with the Qi standard. Smartphones should be equipped with a ‘miniaturized antenna array with an integrated’ beacon antenna ‘and a’ receiving antenna array ‘. ” The smartphone has 14 antennas to convert a millimeter wave signal emitted by the charging battery. The signal is converted into electrical energy via a rectifier circuit.
In its current state, Xiaomi’s remote charging technology can charge multiple devices with a current of 5 W within a radius of “several meters”. Xiaomi claims that physical objects do not reduce the efficiency of charging, but it must come with a few caveats.
Xiaomi teases that its Mi Air Charge technology would eventually be compatible with smartwatches, fitness bracelets and other wearable devices.
Soon our living room devices, including speakers, desk lamps and other small smart home products will all be built on a wireless, fully wireless power design, which makes our living rooms really wireless.
No release date is proposed for the Mi Air Charge system and it is not known if such technology will ever hit the mainstream market. One thing we know for sure – it will be expensive every time it happens. It’s interesting to see innovations like this and we’re excited about the future of wireless charging technology.
