Of course, Microsoft has many more users than Canva. According to the company, Canva’s monthly users now exceed 110 million, about half of Microsoft’s monthly users at the end of 2019. However, Canva was quick to roll out new features and grew its user base to 30. million since last September. For example, in December 2022, Canva launched “Magic Write”, an AI-based content tool that writes text or suggests ideas. Microsoft also announced Edge Copilot earlier this month, which offers similar functionality.
Microsoft 365 CoPilot is set to change the industry. This is because it offers the ability to create PowerPoint presentations through user prompts. For example, if you enter “New marketing material for dog snacks from Rough Rough Fan Stuff,” PowerPoint will create material based on information it knows about the brand and product.
However, Canva’s magic presentation isn’t easy either. As you type similar prompts, Magic Presentation integrates your brand image and builds a presentation from various templates from images found in the brand’s catalog. Canva can create an entire presentation from start to finish, or you can modify it yourself.
Canva co-founder Cameron Adams said in an interview ahead of the Canva Create conference, “When you create a presentation, ideas abound. However, it is difficult to actually build a presentation from a blank page.
Canva Magic presentations aren’t the only new thing. Canva Magic Design is similar to the AI-based design tool Microsoft Designer, but Microsoft hasn’t officially launched it yet. Like the designer, Magic Design lets you upload or style your image, and Magic Design will create a presentation around your image.

Other features that Canva will be announcing to Canva Create include:
• Magic Edit: an AI tool where the user defines parts of an image, and the AI replaces or fills in additional details. You can also just leave the areas highlighted and have the AI replace the rest.
• Magic Eraser: Magic Eraser is a feature that Google has added to its Pixel and Android phones. You can select objects in an image and erase them completely. This feature requires some AI processing, which isn’t always perfect.
• Extended Magic Write: Magic Write can now be used on Canvas, and not just as a writing tool.
• Beat Sync: A feature that Microsoft’s Clipchamp does not yet offer is the synchronization of audio track beats with visual scene changes. Canva uses AI to detect audio transitions and sync them to the video.
Meanwhile, these AI features aren’t free. Canva supports a free tier, but the Pro subscription costs $199.99 per year or $12.99 per month. Magic Light can be used 25 times on the free tier and 250 times on the pro tier subscription. Magic Design and Magic Presentation are free in beta, but will be chargeable later. Magic Edit is free, but you can only use 100 images per day. Magic Eraser and Beat Sync are only available in the pro tier.
