Hello, hello, let’s recap yet another week. Starting with a few chipset stories. Qualcomm and MediaTek both announced new products this week.
The 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 brought the world’s fastest processor core with the 3.2GHz capable Kryo 585.The Snapdragon 870 is built on the Snapdragon 865+ foundation and Motorola has already confirmed that its Edge S will be showcased in premiered with the new chip on Jan. 26.
MediaTek ditched the Dimensity 1100 and 1200 chipsets. Both are built on a 6nm process and both feature the new Cortex-A78 core. So far no phones have declared for the new chipsets and we expect the first to be released by the end of March.
We also had a few phone announcements this week. Honor has unveiled its first phone since its split from Huawei. The Honor V40 for the Chinese market has a 50 MP main camera, Dimensity 1000+ chipset, 8 GB of RAM and 6.72 inch AMOLED. The global variant of the V40, the Honor V40 View, is expected to support Google mobile services when it launches.
vivo presented its best phone to date, although it was initially limited to the Chinese market. The X60 Pro + is really great with a Snapdragon 888 chipset, a new 50MP ISOCELL GN1 1 / 1.3 “sensor, 8MP 5x periscope, 32MP 2x telephoto lens, and 48MP ultra-wide with second-generation gimbal stabilization.
The upcoming Asus ROG Phone (tentatively referred to as ROG Phone 5) featured in a how-to video. The phone is styled very similar to the previous two, but for the addition of a small screen on the back that would display messages and notifications.
Okay, these are the main stories of the week. See you next time!

It is based on the S865, the plus version of which ran its main core at 3.1 GHz. This also means that it is a 7nm chip and uses an older architecture.

You’ll be hard pressed to notice any big design differences from its predecessor.

The Galaxy S series is responsible for the introduction of ISOCELL sensors, improved image processing and creative camera modes.

The next-gen ROG Phone will sport a small display on the back.

This is a regional variation – for example, S21 phones in the US do not have an STD, those in the UK do.

The country will also soon see the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Lite.

We expect four iPhone 12S phones in the fall.

Huawei recently sold its Honor smartphone brand, which separated it from the Chinese telecommunications giant.

The phone comes with 50W and 66W cordless charging.

The 1200 runs its Cortex-A78 core at 3.0GHz, which promises a solid single-core performance upgrade over the Dimensity 1000+.

The update was first released last week in Germany, and now it’s crossed the big pond.

The phone also has two telephoto lenses – a 5x periscope and a 2x portrait lens. In addition, new image processing algorithms to run on S888 chipset.

The next phone’s firmware has started hitting Sony servers.

CEO Kwon Bong-seok sent an internal message, saying that if the division folds, “employment will be maintained.”

Unfortunately, the new update is based on MIUI 12 rather than the new MIUI 12.5.

The new Snapdragon 870 is unsurprisingly ahead of the SD 865 competition.

Well the back is now plastic. At least the screen is now easier to remove than it was on last year’s phone.

The first device to date to be announced with the new chipset.

The Department of Electronics and Information Technology says the changes are neither fair nor acceptable.

The phone costs INR 35,990 ($ 490 / € 405), headphones cost INR 9,990 ($ 135 / € 110).

The next ROG Phone will come with 65W charging.
