Ngan and 68 other contestants attended a party, part of the contest, on Wednesday. The Vietnamese beauty queen wore a sequin see-through dress made by designer Thuong Gia Ky at the event, during which she had to introduce herself in English.
“I’m standing here to tell a story about a girl who wants to raise her voice and take strong actions to support healthcare for the elderly and unfortunate,” she said during her speech.
She added that she came to the contest aiming to learn about the cultures represented by the fellow contestants before expressing how happy and excited she felt being a part of the “Supra family.”

Her speech was said to be wide-ranging. However, she was criticized for her English pronunciation and presentation skills. Netizens said she appeared nervous and unconfident giving her speech in English in front of a crowd.
Facebook user Ping Pongg commented: “Sorry but I have to put it straight, [Ngan] puts in effort but lacks confidence.”
Another Facebook user Nguyen Quang Dung said the beauty queen’s English skills were on par with children of preschool age.
This is not the first time Ngan has been criticized for her poor English. She sparked online debates earlier this month after showing her nervousness and suffering in the Supra Chat interview she had with the contest’s host Ivan Padrez.
In the second half of the interview, when being asked about her opinions on people who body shame others, Ngan gave her answers in Vietnamese before her interpreter helped her to translate to English.
She said she believed that everyone had their own beauty standards, so if she received such criticisms, she would adapt herself upon their suggestions or ignore them, depending on the situation.
Similarly, when the host went on and asked her about the thing she wished she had known five years ago, she gave another answer in Vietnamese, saying she was more mature compared to herself in the past, who was not confident and didn’t even believe in herself.
Ngan, 23, is from Mekong Delta Province of Soc Trang. She was crowned the second runner-up of the 2017 Miss Ocean Vietnam before being appointed as Vietnam’s representative at the 2023 Miss Supranational contest.
She was announced as the winner of the Miss Influencer’s Challenge, part of the contest, on June 24 and is currently preparing for the final on July 14 in Malopolska, Poland.
