Vietnam has registered 8,744 new Covid cases, down 2,289 cases from yesterday. This is the lowest number of daily cases since Nov. 21 last year, the health ministry reported on Feb. 2.
Of the new cases, 22 were imported and 8,722 were transferred locally, according to the health ministry.

Hanoi registered the highest number of domestic infections with 2,716, followed by Danang with 778, Thanh Hoa with 353, Haiphong with 283, Hai Duong with 233 and Quang Nam with 221. In addition, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Binh Dinh and Gia Lai each had 200 -216 cases. Other places saw fewer than 200 cases each.
To date, Vietnam has reported 186 cases of the Omicron variant, nearly half of which have been confirmed in HCMC.
In the fourth wave of Covid, the country has registered nearly 2.3 million cases. Of those, approximately 2.1 million patients have made full recovery, including 6,795 cures announced today.
In related news, HCMC has arranged 24 Covid vaccination sites in Thu Duc City and 21 districts during the Tet holiday.
The city aims to have all eligible people vaccinated by the end of this month, as directed by the Prime Minister.
Municipalities have been asked to carry out the vaccination campaign in a safe and effective manner in the spring of this year; and aim to deliver booster shots to all old people, those with underlying illnesses, those on the front lines of the fight against the pandemic, industrial workers and residents 18 and older this quarter, according to the Department of Health.
