Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, unleashed an expletive-filled rant on the set of the upcoming “Mission: Impossible 7” after he reportedly saw the film’s crew members not adhering to social distancing protocols.
The UK’s The Sun newspaper released an audiotape on Wednesday, in which the famous actor can be heard yelling, “I’m on the phone with every f****** studio at night, insurance companies, producers, and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies.”
“Am I clear? Do you understand what I want? Do you understand the responsibility that I have? Because I will deal with your reason, and if you can’t be reasonable and I can’t deal with your logic, you’re fired,” Cruise continued. “That’s it. That is it. I trust you guys to be here.”
The Sun did not say when the incident exactly happened, but the Mission: Impossible 7 crew arrived in London early this month.
The film was already in production when the coronavirus pandemic hit Europe. The filming was abandoned in Venice, Italy in February.
Production resumed in September in various locations including Italy, Norway and London. Reuters reported that Cruise personally appealed to Norway’s prime minister in July to shoot parts of the film in the country under modified quarantine rules.
Mission: Impossible is one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, with 2018’s Mission: Impossible-Fallout taking more than $791 million at the worldwide box office.
The 58-year-old actor plays the lead role Ethan Hunt and the producer of the film. Cruise has pumped a fortune to keep the production going while also maintaining the highest standard possible for health and safety. The Sun reported that Cruise even hired a cruise ship so staff can isolate.
Since the production resumed in the UK two weeks ago, Cruise has been pictured wearing a mask on set.
On Thursday, it was reported that five of the film’s crew members quit.
The two-minute-long leaked audio immediately became the hot topic on social media, with people debating whether Tom Cruise’s rant is justifiable or if it went overboard.
Here’s what people have to say:
Dear Tom Cruise, Please come yell at America.

I’ve never liked him more! Can I just blast this at the supermarket? https://t.co/KBFLDhKBwU

I’m not defending Tom Cruise’s tone on set, as I’ve come to believe very strongly that yelling on a set is never necessary or acceptable. That said, if there IS a justifiable time for the harshest of words, it’s when health and safety standards are being continually ignored.

Hearing Tom Cruise (who’s making millions on a movie) yell at his crew (who are making thousands on a movie) about how he’s putting food on people’s tables by making his millions… that’s everything people expect from the stereotype that is Hollywood.

People are praising Tom Cruise berating his crew? Lol y’all are wild.

I love the Tom Cruise audio. Not because I think that’s the right way to talk to people. It’s just nice to finally hear an unhinged white person who’s PRO-mask.

Woah 😳 I understand the seriousness.I also get why Katie left him. That’s a scary ass temper. They teach you to shout like this in the Scientology cult. It’s horrible,so intimidating.what a nasty person. You can get your point across without being so verbally violent. @TomCruise https://t.co/OCoQGWXb1a

I stand with @TomCruise. He spoke the truth. People need to take safety protocols seriously.

Think how many lives would’ve been saved if @TomCruise was running America’s COVID response instead of Trump.

I don’t know anyone in the entertainment industry who wouldn’t support Tom for this outburst 👏🏻👏🏻 https://t.co/8Ovv6rrmv1
