A Tesla upgrade package was shipped to the surprise of a TikToker. Her child apparently bought her $10,000 worth of enhancements from the app of Elon Musk’s company. When she noticed the purchase on her bank statement, the refund period had already passed.

Tesla Upgrade Unnoticed: A 10-Month Old Baby Bought a $10,000 Worth of Package, a TikToker Claims — Too Late to Refund?

FREMONT, CA – SEPTEMBER 29: Tesla CEO Elon Musk speaks during an event to launch the new Tesla Model X Crossover SUV on September 29, 2015 in Fremont, California. After several production delays, Elon Musk officially launched the much anticipated Tesla Model X Crossover SUV.

It is not the first time a child bought something lavish on their parents’ smartphones or tablets.

Some parents trust their kids too much when it comes to borrowing their devices. With that, some children have gone on a spending spree using their credit card accounts.

For instance, a child spent $16K on a game, and the clueless parent thought that she encountered a fraudster. Meanwhile, a Belgian teen splurged a whopping $46K on another gaming app.

    Tesla Upgrade Package TikTok Video

A viral video on TikTok with over two million views as of writing claimed that a 10-month-old child purchased a complete self-driving package from the Tesla app on her iPad.

As per KidSpot, the uploader was narrating how her baby was playing on her iPad while she was busy preparing dinner. Little did she know that a $10,000 worth of purchase had already taken place without her knowledge.

The famed clip initially showed a page confirming that the order has been placed. Tesla even added setup instructions once the package has been delivered.

    The confirmation read: “Purchase Successful.”

The video then further showed the photo of her child innocently smiling. The uploader added that she only knew that her Tesla was getting an upgrade after checking her bank statement. And to her dismay, the order confirmation also wrote that “upgrades are not eligible for a refund after 48 hours of purchase.”

It turns out that the parent only noticed her son’s accidental purchase after a few days, and is unable to refund the thousands worth of unnecessary expenditure. She then goes on to complain about the lack of password, or two-factor authentication when purchasing on the Tesla app.

    Was the Story Made up?

According to Newsweek, some TikTokers are not buying her narrative. One user wrote: “Imagine having 10k in [the] bank and not noticing that.”

Another user blurted out unconfirmed statistics. “99% of banks need a double authentication or verify [sic] before it will let anything be purchased,” the commenter said.

As a response to the non-believers, the mother said that the bank account was linked to the Tesla app. So, there’s no need for any prior verification when purchases are being made.

She concluded with a reply video urging her critics to use the Tesla app themselves to understand how it works.
