Sony bought the Helsinki-based studio at undisclosed financial figures, adding it as the 13th studio to have graced its in-house gaming roster.
Previously, Polygon reported that the Japanese giant likewise bought Insomniac Games in 2019 for a whopping $229 million.
Since then, “Spiderman: Miles Morales,” which outperform other iconic console titles in sales, and “Ratchet and Clank: Clift Apart” have been widely successful.
Meanwhile, Insomniac Games teased the upcoming “Marvel’s Spiderman 2,” but kept the game details in the dark.

The Housemarque has been developing iconic console titles for Sony’s PlayStation, which began with “Super Stardust HD,” back with the PlayStation 3.
After the successful stint at making a household classic, the “Super Stardust HD” developer ventured to release “Returnal” for the latest PS5. The new title yet again found its way on top of the popular games of the Sony gaming console.
The co-founder and Managing Director of Housemarque, Ilari Kuittinen, dubbed the newest release as their “biggest foray into third-person action gaming.” He further added to the PlayStation Blog that the “Returnal” monumentally helped them as a brand in the competitive industry that they are in.

Meanwhile, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, said that Housemarque’s numerous creative curation has always helped flaunt the PlayStation hardware — regardless if it is a PS3, or the now sought-after PS5.
Sony and Housemarque have kept their relationship intact for 15 years, more than half of the 26 years existence of the latter.
Furthermore, Engadget suggested that the Housemarque and Sony Interactive Entertainment deal likely benefits the Japanese company to go against Microsoft. The latter similarly acquired a massive game developer, ZeniMax, at a tune of $7.5 billion after the European Union gave its go signal.

Sony PlayStation-Housemarque Acquisition: Why?
Kuittinen told GQ that the Housemarque-Sony acquisition birthed from the desire to create more ambitious titles in the future. The co-founder anchored to the hope that Sony will help them do just that.
The CEO further assured Housemarque gamers that their games will flourish without limitations.
The game developer only showed what is in store for the future in vague terms. However, there are no exacts details about what lies ahead.
