SINGAPORE, March 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Singapore Management University (SMU) recorded strong gains in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, becoming the most improved university in the world among institutions with 10 or more ranked subjects.
In this year’s ranking, eight out of 10 SMU subjects climbed worldwidereflecting widespread ascension across all disciplines and reinforcing the University’s continued upward trajectory as a dynamic and rapidly evolving institution.
The results highlight sustained progress across SMU’s academic portfolio. Notably, Business and management studies increased to 39th globallywhile Accounting & Finance ranked 50th globallyboth entering the top 50 and marking a significant milestone for some of the University’s key areas of strength.
Among the notable gains, SMU’s law program was the most improved subject in Singapore, rising 45 places to rank 56th in the world.. This represents one of the most significant single-year improvements in any graded subject in the country. This achievement comes as Yong Pung How School of Law looking forward to celebrating its 20th birthdayth birthday next year.
Thanks to these improvements, SMU is in the top 60 worldwide in four subjects: business and management studies, accounting and finance, economics and econometrics and law.
At the global level, EMS Social sciences and management entered the world top 100, with a substantial share rise of 89 places to 86th in the worldmaking it the most improved university among Singapore universities this year.
Taken together, these results highlight SMU’s continued progress in strengthening disciplinary depth and global recognition. The University’s focus on impactful research has contributed to lasting improvements on several fronts.

According to QS Quacquarelli Symonds, this year’s ranking analyzes more than 21,000 academic offers from some 1,900 institutions across 100 countries in 55 academic disciplines and five major academic fields (arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences and social sciences and management).
