Serena Williams admitted that she thought she could not make it at Australia Open 2021 after suffering from an Achilles injury at the end of 2020.
Her attendance at Melbourne Park this morning was the 20th appearance of Serena Williams at the Australia Open, one of the fourth grand slam tournament of the tennis world. The American athlete said that she was happy for being able to attend the Open and confessed that she thought she would have to quit this first grand slam of the year. The rescheduling of Australia Open opened a chance for Williams. She said that it was “great.”
In a statement, Williams said.
I couldn’t practice because of my Achilles. I needed every time – I don’t think I would have been here if it was during the regular season. So whew, that was an unwanted blessing, I would say. It was much needed for me.
So I definitely took that time to recover and to just do the best that I can and, yeah, so now it’s a lot better.

The former number one female tennis athlete described Achilles as the worst thing and said that she has realized it would be so long. In the last few months, Williams confessed that she had to push herself to the limits.
Williams said that she is looking forward to accomplish her 24th grand slams in the career. The American athlete said that her motivation is to think about the tournament like she was a teenager.
I definitely get a lot of the same drive
Definitely not the same excitement because there’s nothing like the first time going out there and just seeing everyone and just being around people and things.

Since 2017, Williams has not won a single slam due to carrying her first child, Olympia. Her next play is against Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova.
Her daughter, Olympia and husband, Alexis Ohanian will accompany the former number one female tennis athlete in this Australia Open. If she could win this slam, Williams will establish a record for being the oldest female athlete who wins a grand slam.
Williams said that it was all good to be back and she is ready for the tournament.
I was definitely composed and in the zone and I was just trying to do the things that I’ve been working on so it was good
