A new report from Elec reiterates a previous report from December that vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Google will all release a foldable device. Today’s report does not mention vivo, but does mention that Samsung is developing folding displays for Oppo, Xiaomi and Google. The new report details some of the specifics of each OEM’s foldable screen and its assumed sizes.
From Oppo, the screen in question is said to open from top to bottom, meaning the device will have a clamshell form factor. The external screen will measure between 1.5 and 2 inches, so we imagine that the screen will be long and high when unfolded. While Oppo has worked with Samsung, BOE and Visionox for a 7.7-inch outward-folding prototype, the Chinese OEM will only work with Samsung for this device.

Next, Xiaomi switches from an outward folding screen to a folding screen in the room. Its prototype’s 7.92-inch screen was developed by Visionox, but for this screen – which can be 8.02-inches – Xiaomi will partner with Samsung and CSOT. For reference, CSOT and BOE have developed the Motorola Razr 2019’s foldable screen. Xiaomi’s foldable device will apparently have a 6.38-inch external display. Leaked images of Xiaomi’s device from last month could show this very device.

Finally, while there wasn’t as much information given about Google’s device, the report mentioned that Samsung was developing an OLED display for Google. Such a screen would measure “approximately 7.6 inches”.

Even if it’s just rumors and reports, it’s interesting to see so much interest in folding devices from OEMs. Samsung currently holds the crown when it comes to foldable phones. The company is expected to unveil three new foldable products this year, including a lower-cost Z Flip model.
