Samsung and LG are two of the most recognizable names in the electronics industry these days. And with our current obsession for high refresh rate, high-resolution gaming, they are entering the 4K gaming TV market with two of the best in the business.
In this gadget battle, Samsung will be pitting their Q80 QLED 4K Smart TV against the LG UN8500 75-inch 4K TV to see which gaming TV is the best choice for fragging noobs.

Let’s See How Much This (Hertz)
When it comes to gaming displays, there’s a specification that you absolutely have to consider: the refresh rate. High refresh rate gaming is basically as important as crisp resolutions during this gaming generation, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X’s 120 Hz support. You want all of that if you’re a gamer because the higher the refresh rate, the smoother the gameplay experience will be.
So, what do Samsung and LG bring to the table? 120 Hz support! Both 4K TVs appear to be packing in that department, which by default already makes them perfect for gaming. TechRadar reports a 4K 120 Hz refresh rate on the Samsung QLED, which would pair excellently with today’s current-gen consoles and high-performance gaming PCs.
Yahoo also emphasizes the 120 Hz support on the LG UN8500 4K TV, though it only comes in one size for this battle: the 75-inch option. The competing Samsung product can come in different sizes and still retain the tech (it’s available in 49, 55, 65, 75, and even 82-inch configurations). If you don’t have too much space, go for the Samsung QLED. But if space isn’t a problem, then you’ll be fine with the LG 75-inch.
Samsung Vs. LG Input Lag
Input lag (aka response time) refers to the amount of time that your input on the controller/mouse/keyboard takes before it gets translated on screen. If you’re playing a very fast-paced, competitive game like CS:GO for example, you’ll need as little input lag as possible, so your inputs get registered almost instantaneously. This will result in more headshots than deaths, and that’s a guarantee.
The Samsung Q80 QLED features one of the lowest input lag ratings in the business: 8.7 ms. This is an excellent rating considering that it’s a 4K TV and not a dedicated gaming monitor, which usually comes with as little as 2 ms of input lag. As for the LG UN8500, there’s no mention of its response time rating anywhere. So, we’re going with who wins by default: the Samsung Q80 QLED.

Dolby Vision Is the Best Vision
A modern 4K TV can come with so many features that you’ll probably not be aware of how half of them work. But if you’re buying a 4K gaming TV (emphasis on “gaming”), then you’ll need excellent color accuracy to truly enjoy all those next-gen visuals.
This is where LG’s offering takes the crown from Samsung. The UN8500 supports Dolby Vision, while the Q80 QLED does not. Dolby Vision allows for much deeper blacks (outside of OLED) and richer, vibrant colors. So if you really want to bring out the graphical power of your next-gen Xbox, PS5, or PC, then go for the Dolby-supported option here.

And there we have it: a 4K gaming TV battle for the ages. We’re not pointing out that either the Samsung or the LG is the best here because honestly, it would be your decision at the end of the day. Pick according to your budget, needs, and wants, and you’ll be getting great value for your money.
