We thought the days when phones were submerged in water on YouTube were a long way behind us, as IP68 has become a standard feature for all flagship devices. However, the chain Owl Time Lapse Photo took things to another level by leaving a fully functioning Samsung Galaxy S21 in a water tank for 12 days.
Additionally, the video has been posted on YouTube and the experiment is almost complete at the time of writing. There are three updates to the description of the video indicating that the humidity sensing feature is on and the screen has started to misbehave for a while. The humidity warning is still there but the screen has started working again. The speakers seem to have been affected the most because they no longer work properly.
However, considering the duration of the test and the fact that the phone is submerged in 50cm, the handset does really good to preserve itself. It’s 12 days underwater while the IP68 rating is for 1.5m depth for only 30 minutes. Let it sink in …
