My boyfriend is 1.6-meters-tall, the same height as me. We met through a mutual friend and started dating eight months ago.
He is working in the construction field and comes from a middle class family. I’m an office worker, not too pretty, but have been said to be cute.
My boyfriend treats me very nicely. He makes me feel secure and comfortable sharing everything with him. It’s the way he treats me that I prioritize in our relationship, not his appearance.
We are planning to arrange a meeting with my mother, so that he can officially ask for her permission to take me to his hometown and introduce me with his family.
As my mother paid me a visit last week, I invited him over so the two could meet. After the encounter, my mother said she was against our relationship, since she thought of my boyfriend as someone shy, not considerate, and not respectful to her.
She cited the fact that he only talked to me, instead of to her, when we took her to the bus station and sent her home as evidence. Not until she got on the bus did he tell her goodbye and ask her to stay healthy, which she considered not respectful.
So she told me to end our relationship because of my boyfriend’s height and the way he treated her.
I’m so confused right now. On the one hand, I know in most of the cases, the older someone is, the more precisely they assess someone. On the other hand, I have never seen my boyfriend as someone like this.
