Choi, 24, said the traditional costume of Vietnam had made a good impression on her.
“It was slightly hard to move my arms, but I felt really elegant wearing this,” she said.
When being asked to showcase how she walked in the traditional costume, Choi happily did, amusing people at the venue.
Choi arrived in Vietnam on Tuesday upon Miss Earth Vietnam 2023 president Truong Ngoc Anh’s invitation. This is her first visit to Vietnam, and her business trip is expected to last one week, where she is set to attend various environmental events as part of the contest.
She said she thought positively about the events planned by the Miss Earth Vietnam 2023 organizer, as they would be good chances for the contestants to show their potential, explore themselves, and have interesting experiences.
Choi shared that she asked her predecessors about their experience with the country before arriving in HCMC, and she was told by one of them that beauty queens were treated like princesses in Vietnam. She said she had found this to be true during her trip.
Choi was crowned 2022 Miss Earth in the Philippines last November after finishing as a runner-up in the 2021 Miss Korea pageant.
She graduated with a degree in media and used to be a model. She speaks fluent English, and has lived in many countries including China, Australia, the US and Canada.
Miss Earth Vietnam 2023 final night is scheduled in October in HCMC.
According to the contest president Truong Ngoc Anh, the organizer is looking for contestants that have not only outstanding visuals and intelligence, but also awareness of environmental issues.
Anh will also act as the president of the Miss Earth 2023 pageant, which is scheduled to be held in Vietnam’s coastal city of Nha Trang in December 2023.
