The mass deactivation of Twitter is now happening. Because of this, some high-profile accounts experience fluctuations in follower count.

With approximately 328 million users worldwide, Twitter has grown from a small public start-up in 2006 to a broadcasting tool for politicians and businesses in 2017.
This means that their total number of followers is starting to become unstable. After Elon Musk completely bought the giant social media platform, many users claimed that they would leave the online site.
Twitter confirmed that many of them have deleted their accounts. This means that the mass deactivation is organic as real people leave the platform.
Deactivate Twitter en masse
According to the latest report from NBC News, the continued mass deactivation of Twitter is causing instability in the number of followers. Some popular accounts experience a sudden rise, while others see an abrupt decline.

The official Twitter account of US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene had approximately 539,000 followers before the official acquisition of Elon.
After the massive Twitter purchase was made, her profile suddenly had over 632,000. The giant social media platform explained that the American politician’s account is one of the profiles experiencing ongoing fluctuations in followers.
“While we continue to take action against accounts that violate our spam policy and may affect follower numbers, these fluctuations appear to be largely the result of an increase in account creation and deactivation,” the giant online website said.
A Twitter spokesperson added that most accounts that experience sudden changes in follower count are owned by billionaires, celebrities, politicians and other high-profile individuals.
How to delete Twitter?
Many Twitter users shared the reason why they are deactivating their accounts. Most of their statements are about taking a break from the social media platform.

- First, click on your Twitter profile and scroll down the side menu.
- Click on the “Settings and Privacy” option. From there, click on your account and choose the “Deactivate your account” option.
- You can choose from the deactivation status from 30 days to 12 months.
Meanwhile, Australia Digital Rights Watch explained why Twitter users are considering leaving the platform.
On the other hand, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey said he actually trusted Elon Musk to run the website.
