OnePlus launched the Nord sub-brand last year, but has yet to decide on a naming system – leaky Max J. reports that the direct successor to the Nord N10 will be called the “Nord N1”.
This is similar to Sony’s naming scheme for its phones and especially cameras, eg the full frame RX1 camera, the RX10 1 ”type mirrorless camera and the point-and-shoot RX100. However, it is not clear whether there will be a Nord N10 this year or an N100.
And if there is an N10 mid-ranger, will the N1 go upmarket? This is often the case with mid-range sub-brands that they end up getting a near-flagship phone, for example the Redmi K-series. This makes the programming quite cluttered.
OnePlus’ 2021 lineup already looks crowded with a OnePlus 9E set to join the party, in addition to the usual vanilla 9 and 9 Pro models. The electronic phone is likely to be the lowest ranked in the main series, which would put it right next to a more premium Nord N1.
It also raises the question of whether the original North will have a successor or not (whatever it will be called). This is not the end either.
What if the opposite happens? If the Nord N1 sticks with a Snapdragon 700 series chip, will there be a successor to the Nord N100? It was already pretty low-end, which goes against the OnePlus brand.
Either way, you can check out OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro renderings along with live photos and key specs. Series 9 is expected earlier than usual – mid-March instead of mid-April. As for the new Nords, they will most likely wait until the second half of this year.
