In an attempt to save his reputation following numerous sexual allegations, Kevin Spacey has shared yet another Christmas video on YouTube – and he’s dedicating it to all those who have struggled and suffered in this quite unpleasant year.
In the beginning of the video, Spacey appeared as his deceased House of Cards character, Frank Underwood, for a brief moment before snapping out of character to share a meaningful message.
“That’s right, what would Christmas Eve be without a message from me?” Kevin Spacey, 61, said while sitting on a park bench.
“A lot of people have reached out to me this past year and have shared their own struggles and my ability to be there for them has really only been possible because of my own difficulties. And while it’s been a privilege to offer support, I have to say, frankly, it’s also been beyond my abilities. And it’s bigger than me.”
“Heartbreakingly, so many have talked about things having gotten so bad for them that they have contemplated taking their own lives, and that’s enough for me to want to take an entirely different approach this year,” he said, noting that he was able to offer support “because of my own struggles.”
The actor the advised those “who can no longer remain standing” or those who feel their back’s up against the wall and can’t find the path, that there is a path made especially from them.
“I promise you there is a path. At this time, during this holiday and beyond, even if you don’t feel it, there are people out there who understand and who can help, because you are not alone.”
Spacey shared the phone number for the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s 24-hour outline before ending the video.
As of this writing, the video has garnered 400,000 views and 14,000 likes.
The disgraced actor began posting Christmas videos back in 2018, as he faced felony charges for the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old man in 2016. Spacey denied the allegation.
Spacey has always used his House of Cards character in his videos, seemingly implying his removal from the show and the sexual assault claims pressed against him. Spacey was removed from the political thrillers series in November 2018.
Outside of his yearly “tradition”, Spacey has been largely absent from the spotlight after actor Anthony Rapp accused him of making sexual advances on him when Rapp was about 14.
Spacey came out as a gay man in 2017, and said that while he does not remember the alleged encounter with Rapp, “if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would’ve been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”
