Google’s Android 12 is coming this year – this fall, if the company sticks to its past release schedule. Before that, we should see a few betas, the first of which, covering what happened to previous versions, should appear in a few weeks.
While we’re patiently awaiting all of this, today a bunch of screenshots that would represent certain aspects of Android 12 have been leaked, and – brace yourself, a redesign is coming. New features too. These screenshots are said to be from a document written by Google to summarize the changes in the new version.
The appearances here are certainly reminiscent of iOS to some extent, as are some of the new privacy features, like icons that appear in the top right to let you know that an app is using your camera or microphone. If you tap on these icons, you will get a pop-up window telling you which app is using what. There will also be a quick way to mute the camera or mic with a simple flip of a toggle. These camera and mic usage metrics are apparently going to be mandated by Google to be included by all OEMs once they release their respective updates for Android 12.
The quick settings icons aren’t finalized or they will change shape depending on activity, which seems odd – does the Wi-Fi icon turn fully when connected, alongside the color change? May be. There are only four quick settings icons this time around, which makes them bigger and easier to access, but buries the rest while leaving plenty of white (or in this case, cream) space. . The background colors are probably going to depend on the theme, and we don’t know if this is the new light theme or not.
New widgets are also on the way, with a new Conversations widget that highlights recent messages, missed calls, and activity statuses. In its smaller size, this will only display one item at a time.
Other things that should land in Android 12 are app pairs, the ‘double tap the back of your phone’ gesture, sharing Wi-Fi passwords with nearby devices, a system improved theming, emoji updates decoupled from system updates, and app hibernation. functionality.
