Harvard professor Avi Loeb believes that a proof of extraterrestrial life reached our planet years ago, as written on his upcoming new book, Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth.
Loeb claims that an unusual asteroid that passed close to Earth in 2017 was, in fact, a piece of alien trash.
Loeb was referring to an asteroid that made headlines three years ago, with scientists noting that it was unusual in shape, appearance and trajectory. With a few years to consider the evidence now, Loeb is saying that it was a piece of abandoned technology.
Publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has now revealed the first teaser for Loeb’s book, which will be released at the end of this month. It reads: “There was only one conceivable explanation: the object was a piece of advanced technology created by a distant alien civilization.”
The asteroid, described as cigar-shaped – which is rare in space as forces of gravity and inertia forces objects into somewhat a round shape – left no trail of gas or debris in its wake, unlike many other asteroids that passed by the planet. It was also said to move fast and followed a strange orbit.
Loeb’s book promises more details on the mysterious object, and more speculation as well. According to his publisher, “Loeb takes readers inside the thrilling story of the first interstellar visitor to be spotted in our solar system. He outlines his controversial theory and its profound implications: for science, for religion, and for the future of our species and our planet.”
According to Publishers Weekly, Loeb goes on to conclude that humankind is not prepared to accept this fact.
While Avi Loeb is obviously not the first person to claim – and write a book – about the existence of life beyond Earth, he holds credentials that would make people rethink. Loeb is an established astronomer who chairs Harvard’s Department of Astronomy. He is also the founding director of the school’s Black Hole Initiative and the director of its Institute for Theory and Computation.
Loeb’s Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth will be released on print, digital and audiobook formats from January 26, 2021.
