The show uses multi-angle projection technology to present the majestic momentum of thousands of soldiers. Combining video and live performance, the production physically recreates strategic weapons such as the Oxen Barrows and the Zhuge repeating crossbow. Accompanied by live percussion and bilingual surtitles, the show promises an exciting visual and aural experience for the audience.
Dr Vicki Ooi said: “Tame the Dragon is not simply the final chapter in the history of the Three Kingdoms; it is a testament to the inspiring power of classic literature throughout the ages. ‘From the page to the stage®» has always aimed to ignite students’ passion for the arts and literature, creating a theatrical experience that provides both educational meaning and emotional resonance.®“The project she leads has been supported by various sponsors, successfully assembling a professional team to continually promote theater education since 2009.
As the finale of the trilogy, Tame the Dragon tells the story of Liu Bei’s impending end, with Shu Han’s fate hanging on Zhuge Liang’s final expedition to the north. He engages in a battle of wits concerning life, death, and national destiny against his lifelong enemy, Cao Wei’s general Sima Yi. The play not only recreates historical scenes, but also explores thought-provoking themes such as loyalty, trust, respect and leadership qualities through the legendary duel between the two greatest military strategists in history, leading the audience to reflect on human nature and choices. The production will feature legendary episodes such as “Entrusting the Orphan of Baidi Town”, “Outsmarting Jiang Wei”, “The Strategy of the Empty Fort” and the “Later Memorial of the Throne”, immersing audiences in this ultimate strategy game.
Since its launch, the “From the page to the stage” program®“The program integrated theater education, allowing students and audiences to learn English and history in a relaxed and interesting way through beloved adaptations of classic literature. The “Three Kingdoms Trilogy” fully embodies this concept, bringing the stories of the Three Kingdoms to life on stage and deepening the audience’s understanding of Chinese culture: the first chapter, Wake the dragon (2025), focused on the sworn brotherhood of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, and their “Three Visits to the Cottage” to recruit Zhuge Liang, establishing the foundation of Shu Han; the second chapter, Strategy (2024), brilliantly depicted the intellectual clash between Zhuge Liang of Shu Han and Zhou Yu of Eastern Wu, and their classic alliance against Cao Cao; the last chapter, Tame the Dragoncombines historical wisdom, drama and stage technology to push the entire history of the Three Kingdoms to its climax.
