FromSoftware announces the relaunch of the Dark Souls: Remastered online PC servers after nearly a year shutdown.
dark souls is an action role-playing game set in a dark fantasy universe with intense dungeon exploration, action combat with fearsome enemies and innovative online features for a unique gaming experience. However, according to EuroGamer, the fantasy game’s online servers for PC were shut down earlier this year.
The dark souls‘ official Twitter reveals that online features for the remastered PC version have been reactivated from November 9.

What does this mean for Dark Souls PC players?
An important part of the dark souls experience is about invasions, subpoena and online messaging. With the return of Dark Souls Remastered to online servers, players can now access features such as Player versus Player mode (PvP), Player versus environment (PvE), multiplayer co-op mode, and more.

Despite the relaunch of most dark souls franchise games, a statement from the game developers in response to their Tweet thread revealed that the original port for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die will not be restored due to “an aging system”, according to IGN.
“We have determined that we are unable to support online services for the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, which was released in 2012 due to an outdated system.” Tweet announcement. “We apologize for the long wait and ask for your understanding in this matter.”
However, PC server downtime will not affect PvP servers for Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

What caused the Dark Souls’ PC servers to shut down?
In January, Gamespot reported that FromSoftware has shut down its online servers altogether dark souls franchise after alarming reports of hackers taking over opponents’ computers via the dark souls server.
The Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploit was first discovered in Reddit threads, which revealed that the servers could allow PC hackers to “run arbitrary code on your computer without permission,” according to an earlier report from IGN.
The potential security breach was further demonstrated by: dark souls streamer The Grim Sleeper, making dark souls publisher Bandai Namco to shut down the servers for nearly a year, turning off the online experience for PC players.
Luckily the dark souls‘ issue was revealed before the release of Elden Ring in February, which allowed FromSoftware to do some loosening up before launching the game.
Despite the long wait for players, the dark souls official Twitter continuously updated fans on their status as they worked on a solution to bring the online servers back. FromSoftware now confirms that it has completed its investigation of security vulnerabilities and countermeasures for: Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2and dark souls 3, all of which were recovered this year.
