Apple’s controversial Irish data center will soon be back on track as the giant iPhone maker revived its canceled building plan.

This headquarter was paused because various protesters claimed that the tech giant manufacturer’s upcoming data center could lead to environmental issues.

The Apple logo is seen on the window at an Apple Store on January 7, 2019 in Beijing, China. Apple Inc. lowered its revenue guidance last week, blaming China’s slowing economy and weaker than expected iPhone sales, as the company’s chief executive officer Tim Cook said in a letter to investors the sales problems were primarily in its Greater China region that accounts for almost 20 percent of its revenue.

And now, Apple confirmed that it intends to continue building its data center in Athenry, Ireland. The giant gadget developer also announced that it expects the building to be completed this coming 2026.

Because of this, Apple said that it will allot around $1 billion budget for the data center in Athenry, County Galway. The company was able to revive its upcoming data center after extending the land’s original planning permission.

However, the company had it rough since the previous protests, and legal challenges forced them to put the land for sale.

According to Apple Insider’s latest report, the current permission-to-build of the giant iPhone maker should expire in September. However, Apple was able to extend this until November 2026.

“Due to delays associated with the judicial processes initiated after the relevant planning consent issued and, more recently, the complications over the last year… arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, the subject development has not been brought to fruition,” said Apple in its official extension application.

The tech giant added that it will soon work on its Irish data center as soon as it finds suitable developers for the project.

“It is anticipated the development will be completed within the extension period sought,” added the giant iPhone maker.

Before Apple was able to extend its project’s building duration, the company faced many issues because of environmental concerns. Because of this, the company put the land for sale back in 2019.

However, the iPhone maker wasn’t able to find eligible buyers.

Apple Also Opens LA Tower Theater

Aside from the upcoming Irish data center, Apple also opened its Los Angeles Tower Theater. This place is considered one of the company’s significant restoration projects right now.

On the other hand, the iPhone maker also launched its so-called “Today at Apple Creative Studios” in the giant tower theater in Los Angeles. Apple Newsroom explained that it is the manufacturer’s global initiative, which provides actual experiences and mentorship to young developers and creatives.
