British supermodel Stella Tennant, famous for the muse of luxury brand Chanel, suddenly passed away on the 22nd (local time). It has been five days since he celebrated his 50th birthday on the 17th.
In a statement on the 23rd, the bereaved family said, “Tennant died suddenly the day before,” and said, “He was a wonderful woman and an inspiration for everyone,” reported by foreign media such as AP, AFP, Reuters and BBC.
The bereaved family did not reveal their signature.
Scottish police officers were dispatched after being reported that Tennant had died, but said there were no suspicious circumstances at the scene.
Tennant is the granddaughter of the Duke of Devonshire, Andrew Cavendish, from a Scottish noble family.
Before making his debut as a model, Tennant attended the Winchester Academy of Arts, Southampton University in England, and worked as a sculptor.
Then, in 1993, Tennant, who was 22 at the time, began to promote his name as a model by decorating the cover of the fashion magazine’Vogue’.
Since then, Tennant, who captivated the public with her neutral appearance, has appeared on fashion shows of world-class designers such as Stella McCartney, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Jeanny Versace, and has worked as a model for brands such as Calvin Klein, Hermes, Burberry, and Alexander McQueen.
Tennant was particularly famous for’Chanel’s Muse’.
Carl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s chief designer,’The Lord of Fashion’, chose Tennant as Chanel’s new face, highlighting that he resembled Chanel’s founder, Coco Chanel.
Tennant retired from the runway in 1998 when he had children, but after that he often appeared in fashion shows and other official appearances.
He actively campaigned while trying to reduce the impact of fast fashion (medium and low-priced clothing) on the environment.
“It will take a long time to change habits, but I think we’re heading in the right direction,” he said in an interview with The Guardian in the UK last year.
Tennant was named to the Scottish Fashion Hall of Fame in 2012, and was also on stage at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.
The fashion industry all expressed condolences and commemorated the tenant.
Luxury fashion brand Versace said on the official Twitter account that day, “I mourn the death of Tennant,” and “I will remember him forever.”
Donatella Versace, Vice Chairman and Chief Designer of Versace, said, “I can’t believe the Tennant is gone,” and “I will keep the moments I spent with you in my mind. I wish to sleep peacefully.”
British fashion designer Stella McCartney said “I lost something to say,” and “a man who had a more beautiful inner than a perfect appearance.” ()
