Sponsored Feature BLUETTI’s huge home backup battery has launched on Kickstarter, promising enough power to get you through a storm or other outage, but with portability traditional home batteries don’t offer. The BLUETTI EP500 and EP500 Pro each offer 5.1 kWh to play with, enough to keep lighting running, laptops and phones charged up, and even appliances like fridges going for extended periods, but unlike a Tesla Powerwall it’s all mounted on wheels. Whole-home batteries are increasingly popular, as the need to work around power outages as well as take advantage of solar energy becomes more appealing. Traditionally, though, they’re…

You may have already have an EIP3 in your bank account now, as payments began being delivered earlier this month. This latest payment round is for taxpayers that’ve not already gotten EIP3 at an earlier date. IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig commented on the newest development, saying, “since this new set of payments will include more mailed payments, we urge people to carefully watch their mail for…

Much of today’s technology has an obsession with things we can see, from photorealistic computer graphics, through increasingly sophisticated computer interfaces, to new virtual and augmented reality experiences. Our senses don’t stop at our eyes, though, and sound is an equally important part of having an immersive and believable experience. With the focus on visuals, however, creating evolved audio experiences has been traditionally more difficult and more expensive, leaving would-be soundscape creators priced out even if they know what tools they should be looking for. That’s the situation that startup Spatial is trying to address, with a suite of tools…

Amazon’s Echo Show 10 is big on eye-contact. Now in its third-generation, the rotating smart display has the same screen as its predecessor, but mounted on a swiveling base that uses person-tracking to make sure it’s always facing you. At $250, it’s also Amazon’s most expensive Echo Show model so far. The screen is a now-familiar 10.1-inch panel running at 1280 x 800 resolution. It’s bright, albeit not the crispest panel when you get close, but it’s big and clear enough for you to see from across the room. There are volume buttons on the top edge, plus a microphone…

Samsung is reportedly working on a double-folding smartphone, with not one but two hinges, with the addition to the flagship Galaxy Z range potentially being unveiled later this year. The phone-maker has been aggressive in pushing out foldables, with the original Galaxy Fold followed by the Galaxy Z Flip clamshell, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 which refined the original in late 2020. The focus for 2021 was believed to be extending the range into more affordable territory, however, addressing the lingering complaint that though clever, foldable screen devices are still too expensive for most users. Samsung has previously been…

Sonos may be best known for its standalone connected speakers, but its built-in speaker range, Sonos Architectural, is gaining traction in a space still fairly unfamiliar to mainstream users. Professional installation isn’t new, but there are still preconceptions about just how attainable it is, with assumptions that it’s reserved for multi-million dollar mansions with similarly lavish budgets. When I set out to give a home theater system a Sonos Architectural upgrade, though, I discovered some big surprises along the way. Sonos Architectural With models like the One and Five, Sonos has made straightforward setup into an art: basically plug them…
