Apple’s iOS 14.5 beta allowed users to unlock their iPhones with Face ID with a mask (provided they were wearing an Apple Watch). Almost a week has passed and a number of users using the beta have discovered another change that has come with the update.
When users ask Siri to play a track, Siri will now ask you on which app you want to play it. Also, you can Siri to always read requests to a third-party app that you set as default. This has never been possible on iOS before, and that was part of the reason why Apple Music’s competitors (like Spotify) were upset that Apple is prioritizing its own services over third-party services.

The feature is still in beta, so users Reddit report that the functionality is sometimes buggy. Users are also reporting that CarPlay will also ask which app to use. Some notice that the app will play a specified track on Spotify and ask for permission to access data from Spotify, but saying “play music” Siri uses Apple Music by default.
There is no menu option to access the feature, some are asked to choose an app and other times Siri defaults to Apple Music. Some users even reported that Siri was default on Spotify after asking them just once, even with Apple Music installed and an active account.
With iOS 14, Apple began offering users the option to select third-party email and browser apps by default. These changes appear to be the result of Apple’s anti-trust investigations that have started over the past two years. Apple has been accused of using its App Store rules and fees to monopolize Apple’s apps and services over those of third parties to its user base.
