Apple To Bring Back Ports From Old Models For The 2021 Macbook Pro? Rumors Point To A Few Possible Ones

Apple fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of the 2021 Macbook Pro since the 14-inch model was announced back in the Spring Loaded event. But, what kind of ports can fans expect from the upcoming model?

CORTE MADERA, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 27: The MacBook Pro laptop is displayed at an Apple Store on June 27, 2019 in Corte Madera, California. Apple announced a recall of an estimated 432,000 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops due to concerns of overheating batteries that could catch fire. The recall is for 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

WCCFTech is expecting a slew of modern ports that have already been included in the most recent Macbook Pros, which will be coming alongside a major redesign of the product.

According to the report, Apple is more or less expected to bring back old ports in an attempt to please their older customer base, who have voiced their disappointment over Apple’s decision to take a lot out in the more modern versions of the Macbook Pro.

As for the new Macbook Pro’s redesign, NotebookCheck reveals a lot of changes that may or may not please both current and old fans.

For one, Apple is allegedly targeting a 23-hour max battery life for the 14-inch, and as much as 25-30 hours with the 16-inch. There are also rumors of the models being equipped with the brand-new M1X chip, as reported by 9To5Mac.

But none of these features would mean much if users can’t take advantage of any connectivity, right? As such, here is what fans can likely expect from the much-anticipated Macbook Pro 2021 in terms of connectivity.

    Apple MagSafe

Avid fans may remember that Apple removed the MagSafe port from all related models back in 2016. This was replaced by a USB Type C connector instead. Not a lot of people were happy about this, since MagSafe is a pretty nifty connector for those who are quite clumsy with their Macs’ charging ports.

Deniz Teoman, vice president of hardware systems engineering at Apple Inc., speaks about MagSafe for the Apple iPhone 12 during a virtual product launch seen on a laptop computer in Tiskilwa, Illinois, U.S., on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020. Apple Inc. revealed four redesigned iPhones with 5G wireless capability, upgraded cameras, faster processors and a wider range of screen sizes.

There is growing confidence among industry insiders that the upcoming Macbook Pro will again feature the old reliable magnetic cable, because the M1 iMac has been confirmed to have one.

Apple weirdly doesn’t call it MagSafe, though, which is raising its share of eyebrows.

    SD Card Reader

Believe it or not, SD card readers are still a thing! They still tend to be more reliable than directly connecting a device, such as a DSLR camera, to your laptop, which is rife with performance issues even on modern hardware.

Since Apple always prides itself for offering choice products for creative professionals, they have to bring the SD card reader back. Because without it, people will have to rely on an assortment of dongles. It’s frankly too much of a hassle to deal with those. The time you spend trying to find these dongles in your pile of cables is better spent on being creative.

    HDMI

When Apple announced that their new desktops and laptops will feature the M1X chip, a lot of eagle-eyed sleuths noticed that the marketing mentioned support for HDMI. While this isn’t exactly a confirmation that the next Macbook Pro will allow for exterior display connectivity, it’s still good to know that there is a possibility.

An HDMI port and USB 3 port are displayed for a photograph on Apple Inc.’s new MacBook Pro with retina display in San Francisco, California, U.S., on Monday, June 11, 2012. Apple is releasing a fresh lineup of computers and software tools to woo consumers and keep developers making applications amid accelerating rivalry from Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and, now, Facebook Inc.

There is no word about what version of HDMI will be in the new Macbook, if the rumor does prove true. Right now, the latest version is HDMI 2.1, which supports resolutions as high as 10K at a 120Hz refresh rate.

Looks like fans will have to wait and see.
