According to a new patent filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, Apple is investigating the possibility of making its future watch thinner by completely removing the haptic feedback engine.
But because haptic feedback is essential to the user experience, the company wants the battery itself to take on this role. It describes a “mobile battery component” that provides haptic feedback.
By removing the vibration motor, Apple could free up space and make the battery itself bigger and ultimately improve the battery life. Or the manufacturer has other plans to use the free space. Then again, the patent might not even materialize into a final product, so only time will tell.
