AMD Might Be Delaying the Release of their Mid-Range RX 6600 Graphics Card

AMD could be delaying the launch of their next mid-range graphics card in the RDNA2 family, according to reports.

TechRadar says that the AMD Radeon RX 6600 (non-XT), which is supposed to release this August, might be delayed until further notice. Various rumors indicate that the card won’t be launching until September at the soonest and October at the latest. The information comes from a Twitter page called CoreTeks:

➡️ Navi24 end of this year

    — coreteks (@coreteks) July 20, 2021

It’s worth noting that CoreTeks is also among the first to say that the new mid-range AMD Radeon card will come out next month. However, there’s barely any mention of it anywhere in recent news as for the XT variant. The initial date was August 11 for both the XT and non-XT card, reports VideoCardz.

The RX 6600 non-XT releases will be the first non-XT AMD Radeon card since the RX 6800 launched last year. This delay also seems to prove that Team Red, despite graphics card prices seemingly easing up, is still struggling to keep up with current market demand.

AMD RX 6600 Non-XT: Specs Talk

AMD is planning to have the RX 6600 non-XT to sit comfortably at the top of 1080p-focused graphics cards according to various leaks. This could be evident in the yet-unconfirmed spec sheets.

The card is alleged to have 1792 stream processors, which is a little bit less than the 6600 XT’s rumored 2048. However, the non-XT card will fall a little bit short of the RTX 3060 Ti from NVIDIA, which is currently the mid-range graphics card of choice.

AMD is also rumored to be equipping the card with 4 to 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM on a 128-bit bus to round up the list of unconfirmed specs. That bus width is more than enough to say that the RX 6600 non-XT will be a card meant for budget gamers, assuming the pricing is correct.

Of course, there’s still the issue of whether these GPUs will actually be available to buy when they launch, given the current state of the market.

    Isn’t AMD Focusing on Next-Gen?

Perhaps they are, but Team Red did make a commitment to shore up the supply of their RX 6000 series graphics cards earlier this year. Maybe this is why some of their most sought-after current-generation GPUs have been experiencing steady price drops at major retailers, though pricing is still a little bit over MSRP.

For now, there is much to be excited about the next-generation RDNA3 GPUs, which are reported to offer an insane performance jump from the RX 6000 series. The upcoming AMD Radeon cards are rumored to feature a massive 160 compute units and as many as 10240 stream processors at the high-end. That’s literally double the hardware of the current top-end RX 6900 XT.

Still, it remains to be seen whether the new AMD Radeon cards will live up to lofty expectations, especially since they’re going directly against NVIDIA’s next-gen RTX 4000. It looks like gamers will have to wait and see.
