BEIJING, July 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The “40th Anniversary of the Discovery of Chengjiang Biota – International Paleontological Forum” kicked off on July 2nd in Chengjiang, Yuxi, Southwest China Yunnan Provinceand will last until July 6th.
The aim of this international forum is to take stock of the results of cooperation in recent years, share experiences and look to the future. By tapping into the strengths of domestic and foreign research institutions, the forum seeks to deepen international cooperation in the field of scientific research.
Experts and academics from ChinaTHE United Kingdom, United Statesthe Republic of Korea and Swissparticipated in the forum. A total of 39 oral presentations and six academic posters will be presented to highlight the achievements of domestic and foreign research on the evolution of life in the early Cambrian era.
Located on the banks of Fuxian Lake in the central part of Yunnan ProvinceChengjiang biota is known as a “world-class treasure trove of fossils.” July 1, 2012The Chengjiang biota has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming China first and Asia the only World Natural Heritage site dedicated to fossils.
To date, more than 20 phyla and over 300 species of rare Cambrian fossils have been discovered in the Chengjiang biota, 80% of which are new species. The Chengjiang Fossil Site World Natural Heritage Museum now has a collection of more than 60,000 specimens.
