The couple returned to India as there was no prima facie case against Oberoi in the road accident that led to the death of a Swiss couple on the Italian island of Sardinia, the news channel reported Indian. CNBC TV18.
Oberoi was under investigation by Sardinian prosecutors for “double road homicide” after his Lamborghini, with him and Joshi inside, collided with a Ferrari earlier this week while both cars were trying to pass a large motorhome, according to The telegraph.
The accident caused the Ferrari to overturn, which then caught fire, burning the Swiss couple to death inside the vehicle.
The occupants of the campervan were also injured and were hospitalized, while Oberoi and Joshi were unhurt.
The drivers are said to have taken part in an event called the Sardinia Supercar Tour, in which participants drive their high-end cars from the south coast to the north coast of the Mediterranean island.
Local police and technical experts were sent to the accident scene to investigate the matter.
Oberoi, 54, is the chairman and managing director of Mumbai-listed Oberoi Realty, known for its high-end real estate properties. His net worth was estimated by Forbes $3.7 billion in October 2023, and he is considered one of the richest men in India.
Joshi, 46, is a former actress, model and beauty pageant winner. She won the title of Miss International India 2000 before representing her country at the Miss International 2000 pageant.
The couple married in 2005 and have two children.
