Vietnam struggled to find a path to the Guam goal in the opening 30 minutes as the visitors put up a multi-layered defense.
The Vietnamese attackers were out of tune, especially Le Van Do and Nguyen Van Tung, who missed numerous chances. With a large number of defenders inside the box, Vietnam had no choice but to attack from the flanks.
In an attack like that, Nguyen Thanh Nhan passed him into the box for Van Do to exploit for Vietnam.
After breaking the tie, Vietnamese players still struggled to break through Guam’s defense and the first half ended with only one goal scored.
In the second half, Vietnam showed a different face and the replacement by Ho Van Cuong contributed a lot. He scored the third goal in the 68th minute with a run and finished as a striker. Before that, there was a penalty converted by Van Tung in the 54th minute.
With a three-goal lead, Vietnam continued to put pressure on an exhausted Guam and scored three more goals in the remaining time, including a second penalty shot.
The 6-0 victory puts Vietnam top of Group C before facing Yemen in the next round on Saturday.
