SINGAPORE, December 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — LyondellBasell and Pigeon Singapore – the regional headquarters of its business unit spanning South East Asia, Middle East, Africa and Oceania – announced their collaboration to advance sustainable research and development efforts in baby bottles.
Renewed Pigeon SofTouch™ Nursing Bottle Series Will Use LyondellBasell Bio-Based They circulateRenew polypropylene polymers, as part of Pigeon’s transition away from the use of 100% virgin polypropylene resins.
With more than 60 years of research on breastfeeding, Pigeon is the world’s No. 1 brand for baby bottles. Integrating They circulateRenew PP (polypropylene) parts (PP cap, cap, handle and bottle) used in the renewed Pigeon SofTouch™ nursing bottles, the use of virgin PP plastic will be reduced, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions . They circulateRenew PP has a PCF (product carbon footprint) 70% lower than that of fossil-based PP over its entire life cycle* thanks to the use of a raw material of biological origin.
Additionally, consumers can expect to reuse these bottles as their child grows. By replacing the nipple or pacifier with Pigeon’s new 2-Step Straw Caps, babies can continue to use the bottles to drink water or other liquids.
Pigeon is committed to its goal of making the world more baby-friendly. “Our goal is to help parents provide the best for their babies, and that includes a sustainable environment in which children can grow and thrive,” said Yusuke Nakata, CEO of Pigeon Singapore. “Over the past few years, we have studied our material sources and opted for alternative options where possible. Using bio-based plastic for our baby bottles is an exciting development and we are proud to collaborate with LyondellBasell to introduce this significant range. “.
“At LyondellBasell, we are committed to creating solutions for sustainable everyday living and helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals. Our They circulateThe Renew family of products enables these advancements,” said Allen Yuexecutive vice president of LyondellBasell, Asia Pacific. “We are very pleased to collaborate with Pigeon Singapore on this project, which represents a significant milestone as we are supplying for the first time They circulateRenewing the qualities of baby products.”
The LyondellBasell They circulateRenew polymers are made from renewable raw materials derived from bio-based waste and residual oils, such as used cooking oil. These raw materials are used in LyondellBasell’s conventional production processes along with conventional raw materials and are allocated to They circulateRenew products using an ISCC PLUS certified mass balance approach. The use of renewable raw materials offers a lower carbon footprint than raw materials of fossil origin.
For this initiative, Pigeon received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification, assuring consumers that ISCC sustainability requirements for bio-based materials related to its products are met. An ISCC PLUS certification covers the entire value chain and is an internationally recognized certification standard that can be applied to mass balance methodology.
In close cooperation with the Japanese trading company Iwatani Corporation and LyondellBasell, Pigeon will present these durable nursing bottles in Indonesia Since December 2023followed by the rest of the markets in South East Asia, Middle East, Africa and Oceania the following year.
*Assuming energy recovery as an end-of-life scenario and including production-related emissions, polymers store end-of-life carbon emissions, but excluding distribution-related, use-related emissions and other end-of-life emissions.
