Vietnam sent 97,234 workers overseas in the first eight months of 2023, over 88 percent of the annual target, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Welfare reported.
Japan remains the largest beneficiary with 47,215 guest workers, followed by Taiwan (41,654), the Republic of Korea (1,944), mainland China (1,163), Hungary (1,002), Singapore (964) and Romania (627).
In August alone, more than 12,000 people went to work abroad under contract, including 6,076 to Japan, 4,698 to Taiwan, 200 to Hungary, 164 to Singapore, 145 to the Republic of Korea, 139 to mainland China. and 90 in Romania, according to statistics.
Japan has remained the top destination for Vietnamese guest workers in recent years.
The two countries have coordinated to carry out a project to help Vietnamese workers find suitable employment in Japan and access employment information after returning home. They also help companies find workers for their vacant positions. In order to protect the interests of workers in Japan, the Ministry of Labor has also signed cooperation agreements with many Japanese prefectures such as Chiba, Saitama, Gunma, Kanagawa and Nagano.
In 2023, in addition to supporting traditional markets like Japan, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea, the ministry also decided to explore new ones for Vietnamese workers. In early August, she had a meeting with the Greek Union of Agricultural Cooperatives to discuss cooperation to send Vietnamese to work in agriculture in that country.
