Lego Manufacturing Vietnam said its billion-dollar factory in southern Binh Duong province would produce its first toys in the second half of 2024.
General Manager Preben Elnef said that more than 2,000 people work directly at the construction site covering 44 hectares in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 3, and the number of construction workers will double by the end of this year .
The factory plans to hire 100 employees this year and 500 by the end of next year, and to create a total of 4,000 jobs over 15 years.
As of September 15, approximately 50,000 green trees have been planted on campus. More than 12,500 solar panels with a total capacity of 7.4 megawatts will be installed on the roof of the plant, and a solar farm will be built on adjacent land to provide energy to the plant.
This is the Danish toy company’s sixth factory and the second in Asia. It is the first carbon neutral Lego factory, using electricity from the roof’s solar panels and the nearby solar farm.
Lego opened its first Asian factory in China in 2016 and the Danish company’s products are sold in more than 130 markets.
