I stopped at a restaurant at 9:55pm, five minutes before closing time, so the employee asked me to order my takeout food and I gladly accepted.
But my friend said I was rude.
We were walking last weekend and passed the restaurant on the way home. I was hungry so I just wanted to buy something to eat.
The restaurant had a sign saying it closes at 10 p.m. which means it will serve a customer arriving at 9:59 p.m. If a venue wants to close exactly at 10 p.m. -hour earlier. Banks do that. They technically close at 5 p.m. but stop receiving customers from 4:30 p.m. or even 4 p.m.
My friend told me that I had been very rude ordering 5 minutes before closing time, that I could not compare banks with restaurants, because the people who worked at the latter still had to clean the place. Plus, if they’re already turning off the ovens and putting the ingredients away, they’ll need to turn them all back on and put everything back together.
My friend said that if everyone thought like me, the restaurant staff would have to work very late and wouldn’t get paid more.
Can you please tell me if I was wrong?
