Four motorbikes waiting at a red light on a highway in central Binh Thuan province were hit from behind by a car driven by a 16-year-old boy on Saturday morning.
The five people on the motorcycle were thrown into the air and fell violently onto the highway. It all happened in five seconds, before they were rushed to hospital with injuries.
Debris from bicycles, helmets, shoes and slippers were scattered on the road.
An eyewitness said the car was traveling at high speed when it hit the motorcycles. Although he was about 20 m from the red light, he did not slow down but managed to avoid a stationary truck before hitting the motorcycles which were near the edge of the road.
The driver, Nguyen Chi Hao, tested negative for drugs and alcohol, although he was not yet of driving age.
The initial investigation revealed that the accident occurred because Hao did not pay attention to the road while driving.
The police are continuing their investigation.
